Over-thinking?

There is this somewhat annoying thing that I keep doing and I think a lot of people do: Thinking too much. For every decision we make we want to go through all the options, see all the information, get all the itsy bitsy details, discuss with a thousand people, and in the end, we end up deciding on what we thought we'd decide on initially. Why then go through all these time-consuming activities?

Of course, there are certain very important decisions in work and in life that we must be decided on with a lot of a care and thought put through it, but life can be made a lot simpler if we just decide on simple things with this thought in mind:

"If it doesn't work out the way you want it, or it's not what you thought it'd be, you can just find a way to solve the problem and get out of it. Nothing's impossible."

Decisions can never be perfect.

You decide on the available information at that time. Use your judgement and past experiences to formulate the decision. If you keep waiting to have all the available information to make the decision, you might as well be waiting until your 100th birthday. There is always something more that you must know.

Why then do we go through this tedious process?

It's fear of making the wrong decision. We want to know for certain what will happen. Things beyond our control are "unknown" and are to be "controlled" for.

However, if you look at successful businessmen/businesswomen one thing I notice is that they don't waste precious time gathering more than enough information before they make a decision. They use their experiences, their knowledge, decide on what information is necessary to make their decisions, see if things meet their criteria, and they just "go for it."

They get things done.

They "just do it."

If you don't do it, no matter how much information you researched on about it, you'd never know the outcome. There are a thousand externalities that can't be accounted for. What you can count on, is how good your problem solving skills are.

Problems are there to be solved not to be feared.

Don't "over-think" too much. If you want to start a new business, work on a new project, just do it. If it doesn't work out, there's always a way out. There's nothing that a little use of your grey cells can't solve. :)

As the old proverb goes, "Where there's a will, there's a way!"
